I make sure the people I do work for know how much of what makes their systems work come from entities like LetsEncrypt.org and that we need to support them. Two of my projects just made largish donations, and it's still less than most commercial providers would charge. Automatable wildcard certs via acme.sh and DNS validation also make the process easily repeatable. Those SSL/TLS certs also work for email, VoIP and VPN's, not just websites.
